BUGESERA —Three teachers of ETO-Nyamata, posing as school administrators, were arrested over the weekend by Nyamata police allegedly for obtaining money from parents, in promise of vacancies for their children.

According to sources, the accused asked the parents to give them money in exchange for places in senior four for their children.

The teachers were identified as, Mugangu Aye- a Congolese national teaching French, Jean dedue Shingiro- the head of wood work department and Emmanuel Buhayiro – the school store keeper.

By yesterday, the accused were still detained at Nyamata police station. Without divulging details, police said the trio, stand accused of corruption and bribery. Sources say the teachers obtained the money on separate occasions.

"They got the money on different occasions and from different parents. But investigations were done simultaneously, that is why all the three were arrested at the same time,” the source that asked not to be named said.

According to the source, the trio could meet different parents in bars or local markets, from where they solicited unspecified amount of money.

The matter reportedly came to the limelight, after a group of students who were not on the list of government sponsored students, reported to start schooling on the opening day for senior four students last Monday.

The students allegedly claimed to have admission letters from the school head master, but wondered why the school administration did not recognise them. It was reportedly discovered that the students had forged letters, which prompted investigations.

"The letters were not credible at all, because E.T.O Nyamata is a government school, where admission is done by the ministry [of education] not the head teacher,” a source at school said on condition of anonymity.
