Burera- Second and Third-year students at the Adventist University of Central Africa-Masoro, yesterday, completed a two-week special civic and political education course (Ingando) at Nkumba Peace and Leadership Centre in Burera District.

The course, organised by the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC), attracted 375 students, including two from the Diaspora.

"It is empowering, it’s more of a privilege than a task. I feel I have clearly learnt who I am, and what I should do for my country,’’ said Peace Mpendo, a Health Studies and Social Policy student, from London Metropolitan University.

There was colourful closing ceremony marked by a parade, and entertainment with traditional dances and songs.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Senator Wellars Gasamagera, urged the students to engage in research and be innovative to find solutions to the country’s challenges.

During the training, participants were lectured on good governance, unity and reconciliation, national development strategies under EDPRS, in addition to physical drills.

"You ignore bad things but be well informed about good ones.  We expect you to be patriotic and ready to sacrifice for the sake of others and the country,’’ said Prisca Mujawayezu, a commissioner in NURC.
