GICUMBI — Hundreds of people from across the country last week thronged Gicumbi stadium to attend driving permits exams. Conducted by Traffic Police officers, prospective drivers were required to bring their own vehicles for the exercise.
"This is the third time I have attempted these exams without success,” said one man in the crowd.
The exam tests required mastering the use of side mirrors for parking and reversing the vehicle, starting the vehicle and abrupt breaking at very steep hills, without the vehicle sliding backwards. Other skills tested include observing road signs, parking points along the road, driving at the round- about and when to hoot.
"Some people hoot around Hospital premises, which is prohibited by traffic rules,” said a traffic officer conducting the tests.
The candidates were required to pass all the tests to qualify for a driving permit. Those who failed one or two tests were advised to try their luck next time.
