KIGALI - Rwanda will, next week, host a five-day workshop on postal service provision, with an aim of sharing experience between postal officials from the region.
It will draw participants from Sudan, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, and Mozambique.
Organized by the Universal Postal Union, the workshop aims at bringing together postal service providers to share information, challenges and explore ways of promoting quality services.
The Director of Postal Operations at the National Post Office, Fulgence Kabundege, said the high level meeting will examine postal operations in regard to the Universal Postal Union Standards.

"Basing on the International Postal System (IPS), with the use of Express Mail Services (EMS), mails to Europe must get to our clients in only 72 hours while those to local destinations must be delivered on spot,” Kabundege said.

He added that with the ordinary system, delivery of mails to Europe should not exceed five days, 24 hours for nationwide services and a day within the city.

Training on quality control systems will be conducted and a specific action plan on EMS will be developed among other developments.

Participants will also discuss the East African road network project in relation to their operations.
