Editor,

Allow  me to comment on a story that appeared in yesterday’s issue of The NewTimes titled "City hawkers to be allocated premises by June”.

This move by Kigali City Council shows how dedicated the leadership of KCC is in maintaining order and cleanliness of the city.

This development is also going to give hawkers a better and organized way of doing their business.

I have also realized that, it is not only the hawkers who are going to benefit from this move. Most of these hawkers operate on streets around Kigali, mainly in front of shops and people’s businesses. The businesses couldn’t operate efficiently because the hawkers either obstruct the shops or sell the same products to the same customers.

When hawkers get their permanent place, businesses will operate efficiently, leading to increase in tax revenues. There will also be less commotion in the city.
