MUSANZE – Installation of street lights on the eight streets within Musanze town centre began on Monday.
The District vice Mayor, Jerome Mugenzi, says the project worth Rwf258 million is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.
The money was allocated to the district by the Common Development Fund (CDF).
"Lack of public lights has been a major challenge to the district and town residents, this will be a big boost for business and security in the town,’’ Mugenzi said.
Musanze town has over 37,000 residents with over 10 hotels, but lacked street lights for the last ten years.
Residents had complained that it was a major cause of insecurity, and limited time for business operations.
"The lighting was long overdue as we have expressed our concerns to the authorities on the lack of streetlights,’’ Clementine Mukarugira, a business woman in Musanze market said.
