KIGALI - Rwanda’s first Information Access Centre (IAC) was, yesterday, inaugurated at the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre (IPRC), Kicukiro campus.

The centre will be used by students and staff at the institute, as well as the public to access information.
The Ministry of ICT, in partnership with the South Korean government through the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of Korea, set up the centre.

Ignace Gatare, the Minister in the Office of the President in charge of ICT, said that the centre creates an opportunity to access information to benefit the general public.

"By establishing the centre, NIA is bringing to Rwanda their experience of building an information-oriented society,” he added.

Gatare stressed that NIA is helping Rwanda to bridge the global information gap, the country will benefit a lot from the project as the students, staff and the population at large will be informed.

"We believe this cooperation between our country and South Korea through NIA Korea and other organisations will continue to grow and create good rapport of ICT,” he noted.

The IAC is a multipurpose facility that consists of an internet lounge, an IT training laboratory, a seminar room and administrative office.

"The centre will raise IT literacy and promote IT cooperation between Rwanda -South Korea,” Kang Jung, the Vice President of NIA, remarked.

WDA Director General, Albert Nsengiyumva, underscored that they chose IPRC to host Rwanda’s IAC because the institution was strategically located and is expanding.

"The centre is a complimentary facility that will support the training which the institute provides and there is no way we can boost and enhance training without access to ICT,” he added.

Joseph Mfinanga the Acting principal of IPRC Kicukiro Campus said, his institution considers itself lucky to be chosen as the host of AIC.
