The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Dr Jeanne d' Arc Mujawamariya, yesterday said that this year's International Women's Day celebrations would be held at village level.
Women's Day is observed, globally, every year on March 8, to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women.
"This year’s theme; ‘Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women’, is in line with our country’s focus in terms of promoting education, science and technology,” she said.
Mujawamariya noted that sensitization activities aimed at promoting girls education are going on countrywide.
At the national level, the day will be celebrated in Nyaruguru District, Southern Province, where women who have spearheaded developmental activities in their communities will be recognised.
"We shall also give certificates to women who acquired ICT skills in Nyaruguru District,” Mujawamariya remarked.
The Minister added that such village-based celebrations enable the message to reach the grassroots.
