KIGALI - Kanombe Military Hospital (KMH) has embarked on a journey that will see the health facility transform into a high quality health centre for specialized care and teaching services by 2015.
According to the hospital’s strategic plan, the estimated cost is USD 73 million.
The head of hospital, Lt. Col. Dr. Ben Karenzi, yesterday said that the plan is to put KMH at par with the University Teaching Hospital in Kigali (CHUK) and the University Teaching Hospital of Butare, or even better.
"We intend to make it the best in line with the RDF ethos of ‘being the best in what we do’. We have the brains and the will - we shall achieve it,” Karenzi said yesterday.
Recently, Defence Minister, Gen. James Kabarebe, said time had come for KMH to refocus its mission to provision of quality healthcare services as a referral and teaching hospital, targeting the military, other security personnel and their families, with doors wide open to the public.
