Gasogi United head coach Paul Kiwanuka is convinced that his team was better than Rayon Sports despite losing Saturday’s crunch encounter in Bugesera.
Two goals from Cameroonian attacker Leandre Willy Onana helped the Blues come from behind to beat Gasogi 2-1 at Bugesera Stadium to climb to the top of the Rwanda Premier League table.
It’s a result that Kiwanuka can’t still digest given that his men dominated the game but ended up on the losing side.
"It ended like that, we lost 2-1. I can say that the best team lost," he said
"My boys played well, they did not do anything wrong but we were just unlucky. I will thank my players, they played well, they played their hearts out but it was not our day to win," he added.
The Ugandan gaffer claimed that his side were just not lucky to have their 13th minute opening goal controversially ruled out for offside, a refereeing decision that, he claims, demoralized his side.

"I will not comment about the referee because I am not a referee, I am a coach. He is the referee, that is his profession, that is how he made his decisions. I think somebody can reward him with the man of the match accolade.
"I told my players to concentrate because I knew something was going to happen but they were demoralized. I lifted them and they came in full force but maybe it was not our day. We just have to go back to the drawing board and plan for the next game," the visibly disappointed tactician claimed.
Defeat against Rayon saw Gasogi drop to fifth on the league table, three points shy of the summit.
