Often in life we choose to ignore or take for granted certain skills. It might be table manners, actions, sports, aerobics and reading. At some point you might say; why do I need to learn it? But hey… who knows, it might turn out to be a life saver.
Often in life we choose to ignore or take for granted certain skills. It might be table manners, actions, sports, aerobics and reading. At some point you might say; why do I need to learn it? But hey… who knows, it might turn out to be a life saver.
Take your time and read on and see if you surely don’t need these life skills.
Swimming: This is an interesting fun skill. Swimming is good for your health and one way to stay fit. However, some people find it an unnecessary skill.
In case of natural disasters like floods, swimming can be a tool against such tragedy. Several people die because they do not know how to swim.
However, a few people may not comprehend with the thought, but it is better they know that prevention is better than cure. It’s not only about floods. You could save a drowning person’s life as well.
Driving lessons: Driving is as important as the swimming is. Driving lessons are not necessarily for car owners. From my perspective, these lessons are essential in life if you do not want to get limited by location. There are several teens whose parents have vehicles but have never thought of taking driving lessons.
A friend of mine called Emma saved his mum’s life by just five minutes when he drove her to hospital.
"I got home and found my mum had gotten a heart attack. She was lying breathless on the floor and my sister was helpless. The car was parked outside but she could not drive her to the hospital because she didn’t know how to,” Emma said.
"I was the only child at home that knew how to drive. I therefore speedily drove her to hospital and I was told by the doctors that she was remaining with only five minutes to live,” he said.
This implies that driving lessons can come in handy at such emergency situations.
Computer Knowledge: Computers have taken over the world. People are always on internet’s social networking sites like Facebook, or simply check their emails. They then regard themselves as sophisticated computer users.
The truth is that, they are simply sophisticated with the internet and not computer programs. You know how to open Facebook and yahoo mail but you don’t know how to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point.
Joan a graduate friend missed out on a big job opportunity because she was ignorant about Microsoft Excel. Therefore before the clock ticks, you can take those lessons to always stand out of the naïve computer crowd.
Do not let opportunities pass you by because you did not bother to learn an extra life skill.
