KIGALI - Rubavu district authorities have embarked on a cleaning exercise of the town ahead of the annual government retreat that kicks-off, Tuesday, at the Kivu Serena Hotel.

The retreat is attended by senior government officials.
"Although we have been working on our hygiene on a daily basis, with the retreat approaching, we have doubled our effort,” said Christopher Kalisa, the district Executive Secretary.

Kalisa said that more emphasis has been put on renovating dilapidated structures and extending kiosks that are very close to the main road by at least 15 metres.

Roads are being swept clean and schools, as well as hospitals, are urged to the maintain minimum standard of cleanliness.

"We have requested the residents to maintain this spirit of sanitation even after the retreat since it’s the government policy to have clean towns,” added Kalisa.
