GASABO - Police, on Wednesday, evening arrested five people in Gasabo District who are said to have
connived with a man to kill his wife so as to marry another.

Jean de Dieu Rugwizangoga, 37, is accused of conspiring with Ndayambaje, alias Rwandeze, Ange Uwimbabazi and Leonille Utamuliza, to kill his wife, Violette Nyirantabaruye, to make way to  marry another woman, Alphonsine Ingabire, the fifth accomplice who is also in custody.

Police Spokesperson, Supt. Theos Badege, said that Rugwizangoga and Ingabire had hired a man
(name withheld) to kill Nyirantabaruye.

"The person who was hired informed the police and we arrested Rugwizangoga as he led his wife
to a nearby well in Rutunga where he had planned to have her killed,” Badege said.

It is alleged that Rugwizangoga had promised to give the killer a motorcycle and part of his
house in Rutunga after accomplishing the task.

Rugwizangoga was also found in possession of an axe, rope and tablets at the time of his arrest.
 
His accomplices were picked in their homes in Gisozi Sector. It is said that Rugwizangoga had
sought the evil idea from his accomplices before swinging into action.

Rugwizangoga, together with his accomplices who were yesterday paraded before journalists at
the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Kacyiru, acknowledged the crime.

He accused his wife of witchcraft. He said that the wife had bewitched his sister and niece,
and the former had died.

"I plotted to eliminate her because of the pain she had caused me,” he said, seeking
forgiveness for planning such evil act.
