KIGALI - The Minister of Defence, James Kabarebe, and the new Chinese envoy, Shu Zhan, yesterday explored ways of enhancing military cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces.

After the meeting at the ministry’s headquarters, Ambassador Zhan told reporters that he is
exploring new avenues of cooperation.

"We have talked about sharing experience and knowledge in capacity building. We want more
members of the Rwandan army to go to our country to share their experiences, and vice versa,” Zhan said.

He noted that the Rwanda-China relations are good but there was always room for improvement.

Army and Defence Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Jill Rutaremara pointed out that the Chinese government
supports Rwanda’s marine regiment among other projects.

"At least over 30 RDF soldiers go to China every year,” Rutaremara said.
