A Kampala bound bus belonging to Gagaa Bus Services was yesterday burnt to ashes after it was involved in an accident along the Kanyaru-Butare highway.
The accident took place at about 10:30 AM in Ngera Sector, Nyaruguru District about 10km from
Kanyaru border. The bus was heading to Kampala from Bujumbura via Kigali.
The traffic police boss Chief Supt. Vincent Sano, said that security organs and residents
intervened and saved the passengers and their property.
"All passengers and their belongings were rescued safely,” Sano said.
He added that the accident could have been caused a flat tyre.
"The driver tried to coerce the bus to the nearest tire clinic and in the process the bus caught fire,” said Sano.
The incident comes about a week after another Gaaga bus was involved in a road accident, along Gatuna-Kigali highway, killing the driver and injuring 19 passengers.
