Rwanda National Police highly commends the extra vigilance, tireless efforts and exemplary
conduct that characterized all citizens, security and civil organs, local government
authorities and community policing committees during the just concluded incident-free local
council elections.

The elections for district councilors, women representatives, village and cell representatives
that were held in February 2011 were democratic, free and fair and were conducted in a peaceful
environment. Rwandans once again demonstrated a high level of cooperation with the Rwanda
National Police (RNP) in ensuring that the elections were safe and peaceful.

This is highly attributed to the already established good working relations between the Police
and the Public, through RNP’s community policing strategy. This cooperation enabled the Police
to apprehend some few offenders of minor and isolated electoral offences.

Rwanda National Police further requests the general public to continue being pro-active,
maintaining the existing cooperation in preventing crime, tracking offenders and information
sharing to create a prosperous, safe, peaceful and stable Rwanda.
