RWANDA marched into the ICC Africa Division 3 Twenty20 tournament in Ghana as overwhelming favourites but all that was thrown out of the window as they laboured to a thrilling one-run victory against a much improved Lesotho side yesterday.

Batting on a relatively slow wicket, Rwanda, who had opted to bat first, found the going hard after losing three quick wickets. Subashish Samal (44) and Audifax Byiringiro (21) topped the side’s scoring wheels as Rwanda laboured to a meager score of 102.
In reply, Lesotho threatened a major upset until the last over when Evode Mutuyimana took a key wicket to salvage the win.
With St. Helena pulling out at the last minute, Rwanda have to improve appreciably if they are to overcome Cameroon on Saturday and one area they will be looking to address is the bowling. While Lesotho bowled wicket to wicket, Rwanda’s bowling was at times shoddy to say the least.
Rwanda is drawn in Group A alongside Lesotho and Cameroon while Group B pits Morocco against Mali, Gambia and Seychelles.
The winner of the tournament qualifies for the ICC Division 2 Twenty20 tournament slated for April in South Africa.
