Editor,

I am writing to thank the Immigration department for scrapping the work permit fee for people who come from East African Community countries.

I come from Uganda and I got a job in Rwanda with an ICT company recently. I was surprised to learn that the money this department used to charge earlier had been scrapped.

This move will help fill the skills gap the country is facing and as members of EAC, we are happy that the government took that bold stand and removed money charged from professionals.

The work permits and Visas are now acquired free of charge.  Rwanda’s example has been commended and will obvious attract professionals since they will be able to work without having to pay a cent.
