Editor,

I wish to commend the National Electoral Commission (NEC) for organizing transparent and credible local council elections.

Though some minor incidents of irregularities were reported in the Nyagatare and Kirehe Districts, we thank NEC because elections were largely transparent and represented the wishes of the Rwandan people.

The results released by NEC indicated that of the 5, 411,740 registered voters, 93.6% took part which is a sign of confidence Rwandans have in the electoral body. In Kicukiro District where I come from, I have not heard a single person complain about the process. Therefore, this confidence Rwandans have in the electoral body must be maintained.

Voters will always participate as long as they know the process is transparent. It’s also good news to hear that several candidates who lost during  the elections have conceded defeat. This is a sign of political maturity.

Rwanda belongs to us all and we must work very hard to ensure the country is transformed for the betterment of Rwandans.
