Niyonshuti craves for more success

ADRIEN Niyonshuti is targeting more success in South Africa’s national mountain bike series.

The two-time Tour of Rwanda champion, who rides for South African cycling club MTN-Qhubeka, is expected to compete in the fifth race of the championship this Saturday.

Speaking to Times Sport yesterday, the 24-year-old rider said that he wants to build on his recent heroics (qualifying for the 2012 London Olympic Games).

"Qualifying for the Olympic Games is a dream come true for any athlete but I must now focus on other competitions. I have done quite well in the series and I want to continue with the good run,” he said in a brief phone interview.

In the opening four races, Niyonshuti competed in two finishing 5th and 1st respectively. Over 3000 riders are expected to grace the 110km race.

Meanwhile, the national cycling team-Team Rwanda, departs for Cameroon this afternoon to compete in the seven-day Tour of Cameroon.

The team includes four-time tour of Rwanda champion Abraham Ruhumuriza, Nathan Byukusenge, Gasore Hategeka, Emmanuel Rudahunga and Innocent Uwamungu.
