People with disabilities elect representatives

GICUMBI - A total of 147 People with disabilities (PWD) drawn from all 21 Sectors of Gicumbi District, on Wednesday, elected a seven member district committee. The secret ballot elections took place at the district conference hall and was presided over by the District National Electoral Commission (NEC), Civic Education Officer, Pierre Celestin Byigero.

GICUMBI - A total of 147 People with disabilities (PWD) drawn from all 21 Sectors of Gicumbi District, on Wednesday, elected a seven member district committee.

The secret ballot elections took place at the district conference hall and was presided over by the District National Electoral Commission (NEC), Civic Education Officer, Pierre Celestin Byigero.

Each aspirant was given time to present a manifesto.
John Rukerikibaye, beat his rival Jechonias Ngezahayo with 96 votes against 29 as the district PWD coordinator.

"I promise to continue from where my first term ended, by advocating for income generating cooperative societies for PWDs in the entire district,” promised Rukerikibaye, who won a second term in office. 

The elections were observed by representatives of the consultative forum for political parties’.

The elected committee is slated to elect the provincial committee tomorrow, at Nyirangarama Hotel in Rulindo District. 

The seven-member provincial committee will be elected by committee members from all the five districts, comprising the Northern Province.
