RULINDO/GICUMBI - Incumbent mayors of Rulindo and Gicumbi districts sailed through in the Monday advisory council elections, getting a green light to contest for mayoral seats.

In Rulindo, Justus Kangwagye was declared winner representing Bushoki Sector to the district council. He garnered 96.7 percent votes. 

"I am optimistic of winning the second term for the post of Mayor. I would promote economic development in the entire district,” he promised.

In Gicumbi, incumbent Bonane Nyangezi sailed through with 89 percent votes, to represent Kageyo Sector.

"The newly elected councilors are aware of my past contributions towards development of the district, which is why I am confident of a  re-election for a second term as Mayor. I am sure that the people want to further work on the  prosperity of the district,” said Nyangezi.

Rulindo District former Vice Mayor for Social Affairs, Emillien Niwemwiza and her economic Affairs counterpart Deo Nzamwita also sailed through the Monday polls.

Niwemwiza was elected as the women representative to the district council from Bushoki Sector, while Nzamwita emerged victorfrom neighboring Gakenke District.  

Gicumbi District former Vice Mayor for economic affairs, Ildephonse Butera and that for Social affairs, Eugenie Uwamahoro, withdrew from the race at the last minute, citing "personal reasons”.

Elections for the District executive committees are slated Friday.
