RUSIZI - The just concluded elections of local councillors are vital, Rusizi District residents have said.
"The election shows that residents are aware of the importance of electing local leaders,” said Charles Ndizeye, a Kamembe resident.

There was a massive turn-up of voters at all polling stations in Rusizi during the elections held on Monday. People voted early and by 1:00 pm, almost all people had cast their votes.

"Most votes had been cast by 7:00 AM. By the time we opened at 6:00 AM, most voters were already in line,” Aziza Nyirarukundo, the electoral co-ordinator at Kamashangi polling station said.
The residents said they voted for candidates with potential to lead.

"In the past, when we voted for cell leaders, some people voted for people they barely knew. This time, we took campaigning as the first quality for a person to lead us,” says Fabian Ndahimana, a resident of Gihundwe.
