I read with shock reports that there are some individuals and human rights groups who are trying to block the extradition of Celestin Ugirashebuja, a Rwandan accused of playing a key role in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
If Ugirashebuja, who was found working in a seaside nursing home for elderly and vulnerable patients in UK, believes that he is innocent, let him go to court and explain his innocence.

Residents in Kigoma Commune, now in the Southern Province where the suspect lived confirm that they witnessed Ugirashebuja participating in the killings of many Tutsi. It’s, therefore, very disturbing to hear that some people are trying to protect this man.

I am sure if Ugirashebuja is innocent, as he claims, he will be acquitted. After all, he would not be the first suspect to be acquitted. However, to say that someone accused of committing crimes should not be produced in court at all, is highly irresponsible and will only encourage a culture of impunity in the world.
