-Amavubi lacks a leader

AMAVUBI’s assistant captain Jean Baptist Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi has lifted the lid on the team’s recent woes by revealing that the wasps are not only short of a team leader and good strikers but also need some professionals in the side.

In an exclusive interview with Time Sport yesterday, the 23-year-old midfielder reasoned that for Amavubi to revive their hopes of qualifying for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup which will be held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, head coach Sellas Tetteh needs to reinforce the striking line, look for a captain with character and recall some of the professionals.

"It’s true that we had inadequate preparations before CHAN (Africa Nations Championship) and that it affected our performance in Sudan but there is more to it,” the APR player said, adding, "no offence to Haruna Niyonzima (Amavubi’s current captain) but the team lacks someone who can inspire the rest.”

"The striking department needs to be reinforced and the coach should look at bring back some of the professionals like Olivier Karekezi.”

The former Amavubi captain, who currently plays in the Swedish league, has not donned national team colours since Tetteh’s arrival forcing certain sections of Amavubi fans to question Tetteh’s selection criteria and coaching techniques.

Many believe that the team’s poor start in the 2012 CAN qualification campaign is partly down to the fact that the team lacks experience.

Rwanda are bottom in Group H after losing their first two matches against Ivory Coast and Benin and need a win against Burundi next month to revive their hopes of qualifying.

Migi is convinced that with good preparations, Amavubi have enough quality to see off their Burundian opponents.
