HUYE - Industries should contribute to the development of the people living around their establishments.
The Governor of the Southern Province, Alphonse Munyantwari, made the appeal, saying that it is part of the social corporate responsibility companies have to fulfil.
Munyantwari made the call during his tour of Huye industrial zone in Sovu cell, Huye sector.
During the trip, he visited Sovu coffee processing factory, Kubumwe Enterprises which processes agricultural produce and the New RUCEP-Rwanda, a leather factory.
He reminded the industrialists that the population is the major source for their income, and said that there was need to engage in activities that will enhance the social welfare of residents.
"When you are involved in agri-businesses projects, you need to work closely with the local people because they are the ones who produce what you process. You should therefore give back by promoting their welfare.”
The new governor also called for a comprehensive campaign of marketing their products across the country and abroad.
In an Interview with The New Times, Dr Celestin Kubumwe, the owner of Kubumwe Enterprise, expressed willingness to collaborate with people and help raise their welfare.
The plant processes beans and manufactures banana and sorghum beer.
Kubumwe said that his factory was studying a way of helping local farmers access high quality beans seeds.
