The local football governing body (Ferwafa) vice president Vedeste Kayiranga has urged women to be competitive in this year’s women football championship.

"We want them to train very hard, play with a vision and be competitive in this championship," said Kayiranga.

The 4th edition of the National championship kicks off on Wednesday, February 20 and has attracted ten clubs, one short of last year’s entry.

Latest reports also indicate that Ferwafa will foot the club’s transport and refreshment costs.

However, the body has also called upon sectors and districts to support their respective clubs.

In this regard, Kayiranga hailed Kayonza, Musanze, and Gicumbi clubs for trying to be self reliant.

There have been complaints of some clubs recruiting players without any transfer procedures with their former clubs, but Kayiranga insists that the issue will be sorted out soon.

Meanwhile, selection of the first national female team is in progress as best players from the five Provinces are scheduled to play with those in Kigali.

The national team is scheduled to compete in a women’s tournament in Germany around April.
