KIGALI - Edward Norton, the United Nations’ Goodwill Ambassador for Biodiversity, yesterday said Rwanda’s commitment to environmental protection greatly inspires him.
Norton, a famous American film actor, screenwriter and director, said this after meeting Premier Bernard Makuza in Kigali.
"Rwanda honestly is a real inspiration to me and a lot of people, who are looking in the 21st century for new ideas in countries that are really committed to biodiversity preservation,” he said.
Norton is famed for his role in movies like The Illusionist, and The Painted Veil.
"For a small country, Rwanda is doing things that are way ahead of countries like mine, and other developed nations.”
The conservation campaigner added that the country’s ‘incredibly impressive’ programmes reflect a deep commitment to biodiversity and environmental protection.
Norton emphasized that one of the positive things happening is that people are beginning to understand that economic development and prosperity is tied to environmental health.
