The National Land Centre (NLC) has completed demarcating 4 million parcels of land across the country.

The Director General of the National Land Centre, Dr Emmanuel Nkurunziza, announced this on Thursday.

"Today is a special day because NLC has launched the national land use and development master plan and it’s mainly aimed at ensuring optimal utilization of land in this country,” said Nkurunziza during the launch of the master plan in Kigali.

Nkurunziza, who is also the Registrar of Land Titles, said the master plan will help indicate where particular usage of land can be more efficient, effective and sustainable.
He added that the demarcation process in Kigali city was completed at the end of last year.

Nkurunziza further stated that NLC is now in the process of corrections which will be followed by the issuing of land tittles next year.

He noted that after finalizing the national master plan, the NLC will also come up with plans for district land use.
Nkurunziza said that his centre will organize trainings for district land officers in various land management issues.

He told The New Times that there are an estimated 8 million plots countrywide.
