MUSANZE – Primary and secondary school teachers and members of the private sector, yesterday, elected their representatives to the cell advisory council in the ongoing local council’s elections.

The National Electoral Commission coordinator in Musanze, Justin Bigirumwami, said the latest election is meant to fill the vacant positions of the cell advisory council. The new council members were sworn in, while representatives to the sector board, were selected.

"Issues from the grassroots require consultations among the electorate and the leadership, especially after the process of electing the leaders,’’ said Pélagie Nyirakadari, the headmistress of Ruhengeri Primary School.

Bigirumwami added that the elections were conducted in an open, free and fair environment, giving voters powers to choose their desired candidates.

Félicité Nyiramashuri, who was elected to represent nursery schools, said she would mobilise support for the nursery schools, especially training of the nursery teachers whom she said many lack the required skills.

Most of those elected had served in various capacities, including mediation committees, Gacaca courts, and land committees.
