Rwamagana - At least 20 families in Rubona Sector of Rwamagana District were left homeless, following two days of heavy rains that destroyed their houses.

Daniel Karinganire, the sector’s Executive Secretary, described the situation as terrible, appealing to the central government for aid as the sector’s disaster management committee plans a way forward.

"We will respond adequately once we make the necessary assessment but relief aid is the immediate priority. We need over 600 iron sheets,” he said.
Karinganire added the rains also ruined hectares of banana plantations.

Focus Nkuriye, a father of six, whose banana plantation was destroyed said the downpour, was unsure of how he would get children’s school fees.

"We have suffered a big loss because all banana trees collapsed”, he said.
