The public commuter transport association, Atraco, will, on February 24-27, hold elections for new leaders.
The move came after members of the association agreed on a three-year mandate during a meeting with Rwanda cooperative Agency (RCA) officials and the current management.
"We are very happy with the way members are responding to the new mandate, and now this leads us to hold elections as requested by RCA,” said president of Atraco, Col. (Rtd) Ludovic Twahirwa alias Dodo.
"My status will depend on the members, if they vote me to go ahead as their president, I will accept their voice, but right now I can’t tell,” Dodo said.
He noted that Atraco will be more transparent since every member will be entitled to information flow and equal dividends.
Atraco is currently undergoing restructuring, which was ordered by the Ministry of Local Government after allegations of mismanagement.
These allegations were raised by some members during the President’s visit to Nyabugogo Taxi Park last year. The association has over 3,000 members.
The aim to restructuring was to turn it into an organisation inline with the current national policies. This will help in ending problems in the organisation.
"If Atraco is turned into a cooperative entity, it has to go through a lot of changes in the management structure and follow rules governing cooperative societies. There will be an accounting system,” saidtht director of planning of cooperative capacity building at RCA, Vincent Rutaremera.
Dodo said the association managed to construct bus parks across the country and is planning to build six more terminals.
