I read, in yesterday’s issue of The New Times, a story about the Minister of Agriculture encouraging African countries to invest more in animal health. This is an encouraging statement because agriculture is the backbone of African economies.

Rwanda has already invested alot in the agriculture sector, and rural communities have immensely benefited from various programmes, such as the  One Cow per Family.

Government has also continued to support agriculturalists through Rwanda Animal Resources Authority (RARDA), a government agency charged with improving the quality of animals and their products. The results are productive.

I was pleased to hear that the Government bought modern equipment that would preserve animal semen for long. This has assisted us, farmers, to inseminate more cows easily, and we are optimistic that the Government will continue to fulfill its pledge to help farmers.
