THE local football governing body, Ferwafa and all the concerned parties need to go back to the drawing board after Rwanda’s dismal show at this year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Sudan.

Amavubi, who returned last night, suffered a hasty exit from the tournament after losing all their Group D matches against Senegal (0-2), Tunisia (1-3) and Angola (1-2).

After back to back defeats against Senegal and Tunisia, Rwanda were simply on a redemption mission and looked like they would succeed after a solid start.

Sellas Tetteh’s side was in total control and could have gone ahead early in the game but failed to convert the numerous chances that came their way.

However, on the 18 minute, midfielder Jean Baptist Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi gave Rwanda a well-deserved lead with a long range effort, which schemed through a sea of Angolan defenders before zooming into the net.

His effort was from a rebound after Angolan goalie Joao Luis spilled Emmanuel Sebanani’s goal bound shot into play.

The Palancas Negras replied on the half hour mark when Sebastiao Cabungula’s nice head flick from Carvalho Osorio’s free-kick beat Rwanda’s goalkeeper Jean Claude Ndoli.

Similar to the first half, Rwanda had a better start in the second half but it was Angola who succeeded in hitting the back of the net through Carvalho on the 57th minute.

The game remained balanced with Angola holding onto the crucial victory that guaranteed them a place in the last eight.

The team’s appalling display has brought Tetteh’s coaching tactics under scrutiny. Some sections of Amavubi fans believe the Ghanaian is not the right man to revitalize the team.

Rwanda is currently ranked 134 in the world but the dismal display in CHAN means that the country could drop further.

In the other Group D tie, Tunisia beat Senegal 2-0 to qualify as group winners.

Angola will now play Cameroon whilst Tunisia plays holders DRC at the knockout stage.
