So, on the evening of Valentine’s Day, my colleagues and I decided to go Cine Star cinema located in Nyamirambo. I’ve always heard it’s the finest and I indeed got to confirm that.
Cine star had lined up one movie, ‘Blue Valentine’. I’d not heard of it before and it sounded like a perfect movie for the night. We had to get there early because it had been threatening to rain from the early hours of the evening.
‘Blue Valentine’ is a brilliant and poetic film, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a first date. Its subject is the life and slow death of a love affair, and anyone in the joyous act of reaching for perfumed flowers and all the beautiful things you carry on such nights might not love the ugly quarrels and heartbreaks in the movie. Coca-Cola and Cine Star cinema were the main organizers of this night and both lived up to their expectations. Coca-Cola had paraded a number of soft drinks and Cine-Star distributed popcorn and other snacks. However the crowd they expected didn’t show up as there were many unoccupied seats.
"We sent out many invitations to our clients and indeed many people had promised to show up. I think they failed to make it due to the bad weather,” explained Muhamud Ntaganda, Cine Star’s manager.
According to Ntaganda, a new schedule for movie screening has been put in place: Thursday (local and western movies), Friday (comedy night), where local and East African comedians will perform, with Saturday reserved for the latest movies.
On Sunday, family movies will be screened, while Monday and Tuesday it is choice screening, where people will be allowed to bring their favourite movies.
Membership cards are in two categories; a one-year royal card (Rwf 40,000) and a six-month card (Rwf 25,000). Both cards give privilege to families and couples.
