AMAVUBI head coach Sellas Tetteh has once again blamed the team’s dismal performance at this year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Sudan on poor preparations.

The Ghanaian, who has come under criticism  following the team’s recent poor run of form, insists that it was always going to be a tough mountain to climb for the wasps after what he called ‘inadequate preparations’.

"There were a lot of difficulties in the build-up to the tournament and it has affected our performance,” Tetteh was quoted as saying on cafonline.

"But I know that the future is bright and we will work on our weaknesses. This team has the potential to develop into a strong side in the near future,” he added.

He also defended his strikers who partly shoulder the blame for the team’s early exit.

Some Amavubi fans see the players (especially strikers) as far more culpable especially against Senegal were they squandered several scoring opportunities before going on to lose 2-0.

"We need to drift away from this habit of piling pressure on the strikers because as far as I’m concerned, scoring is a responsibility for the whole team,”

While some sections of Amavubi fans are starting to question if Tetteh is really the right man for the job, the Ghanaian, who signed a two-year contract early last year, is desperate to stay on and make good the damage done to Rwandan football in Sudan.

It is clear that he is still eager to prove he is the best man for the job.

Rwanda were one of the first teams to exit the tournament after back to back defeats in their opening Group D games against Senegal and Tunisia (3-1).

The team wrapped up their campaign last evening against Angola.
