Editor,

After what has been going on in the world and recently in the neighboring countries, I think the counter-terrorism symposium is taking place  in Kigali timely. This, I believe, will help communities in the region to be more vigilant and to fight the vice.

Given the choice between peace and war, every human being would most definitely prefer peace. However, it beats my understanding when some members of our communities embrace terrorism tendencies.

We need to implement campaigns to stop terrorism and encourage the public’s participation in this endeavor.

The people’s participation in the counter-terrorism fight is crucial because, once the people have taken part in such campaigns; they will cooperate in identifying those involved in such barbaric acts.

Therefore, it is important for Rwanda Centre for Strategic Studies to extend such discussions to the grass roots such that our population is well educated about the dangers of terrorism.

Finally, I would like to end by thanking whoever thought of this meeting and hope it becomes the beginning of more symposia around the issues of security.
