The Wasps ruined their qualification hopes after losing their opening Group D games against Senegal (0-2) and Tunisia (1-3).
Against Tunisia, the game was won in midfield. Jean Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi and Haruna Niyonzima could not contain the North Africans.
Tunisia’s creative midfielder Oussama Darragi broke the deadlock on the 22nd minute after a one-two with Dhaouadi Zouhaier.
Amavubi then fought back through Jacques Tuyisenge. The APR player showed his individual brilliance after splitting the Tunisian defence before shooting past a static Aymen Mathlouti in goal.
But Rwanda’s joy was short-lived as quick strikes from Youssef Msakni and Gasdaoui Slama took the game away from Sellas Tetteh’s side.
The win took Tunisia joint-top with Senegal on four points, two clear of Angola.
However, the South-Central African nation can still qualify for the quarter-finals if Senegal and Tunisia draw or one of them loses this afternoon.
For Rwanda, it is just a matter of playing for pride and avoiding a whitewash at Hilal stadium, Omdurman.
Both games are scheduled to kick-off at 7pm.
