KARONGI- Residents in the Western Province have praised the anti-corruption campaign by the courts of law which ended last Friday

Most of the residents who spoke to The New Times say they did not know a lot of information regarding human rights and justice until the campaign.

In Karongi District, various social activities and competitions were organised to raise awareness on the dangers of compromising the integrity of the justice system.

"I came understand that getting true justice from the court is not a favour but a right,” J Pierre Nsengumuremyi, a resident said.

"Some of us did not know that it is very wrong to bribe judges. I have since known that it is my responsibility to fight crime within society,” another resident, Richard Mugambage, said.

At the end of the campaign period in Karongi, a charity football and volleyball games was organized by Karongi Intermediate Court president, Adolphe Udahemuka who used the games to point out the dangers of attempting to bribe judges.

"This is mainly what causes retardation in judicial and economic development of the nation. We should, therefore, avoid it,” Udahemuka said

He urged residents to report whoever  is suspected of engaging in corrupt tendencies within the justice sector.
