Kigali to host counter-terrorism meeting

KIGALI - The Rwanda Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS) has organized a one-day meeting to discuss issues related to terrorism and how to deal with threats.

According to the Executive Secretary of RCSS, Lt. Col. Joseph Nzabamwita, the meeting, that kicks off tomorrow, will bring together experts, policymakers, lawmakers, members of the diplomatic community and the civil society among others.

"During the meeting, retired Colonel Thomas Dempsey will give two briefings: The Threat of Violent Extremism and De-Radicalization Efforts,” Nzabamwita said.

He added that, Dempsey - who has worked as the Director of African Studies in the Department of National Security and Strategy at the U.S. Army War College - will also make a presentation on ‘Disaster Management following a Terrorist attack.’

Brig. Gen. Dr. Richard Rutatina, is expected to make the presentation -  The Threat of Violent Extremism in the region: Rwanda’s Perspective  - which brings in the regional and national perspective of violent extremism and efforts to contain it.

RCSS, is an affiliate of the African Centre for Strategic Studies (ACSS) - a non-profit organization with the objective of encouraging public debate on international, regional and national security issues.
