One World-Group, through Assist-Rwanda, a local NGO, is set to construct a youth employment promotion and children development centre worth Rwf1.5 billion.
The centre will be based in Nyagatare District.

One World is a German-based group of committed Christians from various countries across Europe and North America, who rally support for education of vulnerable children in Africa.

Speaking to the press, Friday evening, Pastor Gerhard Reuther, the founder of the Group who was in the country on a site visit, said the construction is progressing well.
 "We have started with a library as the first phase, and this library will have capacity to accommodate 1,000 students. It will later be followed by a vocational training centre and apartments,” Reuther said.  

He said the entire construction works will be completed in six months time.
Emmanuel Shamakokera, the board chairman of Assist-Rwanda said his organization is currently supporting 35,000 vulnerable children in the country. 

"These children are supported from primary level up to the university by foster parents and we are looking for more, these include school dropouts, disabled and the orphans,” Shamakokera said.

He added that the centre will help them generate income to support other activities aimed at improving the welfare of the children.

"In partnership with Umutara Polytechnic University, the apartments will accommodate the university’s students at affordable prices, students will only pay Rwf25, 000 per month and this fee will include meals,” Shamakokera noted.
One World-Group seeks to attract support from foreign banking institutions to further develop the centre.

"We want this centre to be driven by 2020 development aspirations of the country, and it will be a centre for excellence,” said Reuther.
