No place for hate speech in Rwanda – NPPA

KIGALI-The National Public Prosecuting Authority. (NPPA) has said that there is no place for hate speech and divisionism in Rwanda. NPPA made the statement, yesterday, while welcoming the guilty verdict against Bernard Ntaganda, the leader of a faction of PS-Imberakuri.

KIGALI-The National Public Prosecuting Authority.
(NPPA) has said that there is no place for hate speech and divisionism in Rwanda.

NPPA made the statement, yesterday, while welcoming the guilty verdict against Bernard Ntaganda, the leader of a faction of PS-Imberakuri.

Ntaganda was on Friday handed a four-year jail term by the High Court, on charges of organising an illegal gathering.

He was found guilty of threatening state security and inciting ethnic divisionism. Ntaganda was also fined Rwf 100,000.

"There is no place for hate speech and divisionism in Rwanda. Our laws are there to protect Rwandans from those who want to reverse the economic and social progress as well as the reconciliation that has been made in the last 17 years,” said Martin Ngoga, Rwanda’s Prosecutor General.

Ntaganda’s co-accused Martin Ntavuka, Alice Muhirwa, Sylvain Sibomana were fined Rwf 100,000 each for organizing the illegal demonstrations .
