SIX time league champions Rayon Sport have appointed Andy Mfutila as their new coach. According to the club’s new owner Albert Rudatsimburwa, the former APR and AS Vita assistant coach, has signed a long-term contract with an immediate task of pushing for a second spot finish in the Primus National Football league (PNFL).
"I’m glad to inform you that Mfutila has signed a long-term contract with Rayon Sport and we hope to achieve big things with him on board,” Rudatsimburwa said.
Mfutila replaces Emmanuel Ruremesha, who will now assume the assistant coaching duties alongside Rajab Bizimuremye.
The Blues are also in talks with three players; Sofapaka’s Bob Mugalia, Uganda Cranes midfielder Mike Sserumaga and Burundian international Karim ‘McKenzie’ Nizigiyimana.
Mfutila, who has returned to DRC to sort out some family issue, is expected to start work next week.
After nine PNFL games, Rayon find themselves 11 points adrift of defending champions and league leaders APR but the club management believe that Mfutila has the pedigree and experience to help them bridge that gap.
While at APR, Mfutila won a treble (league title, MTN Peace Cup and Cecafa Club Championship).
