Africa Nations Championship,

Group D, Yesterday
Rwanda 1-3 Tunisia

Group A, Today

Sudan v Algeria
Gabon v Uganda

Rwanda’s Amavubi team faced an early elimination on the on-going Orange Africa Nations Championship yesterday in Port Sudan.

Rwanda suffered a 1-3 loss to Tunisia to bow out of the championship even with one game left to be played against Angola next week.

Ousamne Daurick scored the opening goal for the North African giants on 21st after capitalising on a defensive blunder. Two minutes later SC Kiyovu striker Jacques Tuyisenge equalised the home side before Khaled Gauid scored a second goal from a defensive mistake committed by defender Clement Mukunzi.

Two minutes to recess, Club Africain playmaker Duahel Muhmed curved in a sharp free kick which beat goalie Jean Claude Ndoli into his own net to grab a deserved winner for Tunisia.

In the second half, Rayon Sport defender Abuba Sibomana was given marching orders with ten minutes to go after a second bookable foul as Amavubi pressed the Tunisians in search for equalising goals to enable them secure a point.
Efforts of earning a point proved futile even when Coach Sellas Tetteh introduced Donatien Tuyisenge, Peter Kagabo and Emmanuel Sebanani for wasteful Jean Claude Iranzi, Jamal Mwiseneza and Yusuf Ndayishimiye.

Two games, five goals conceded, and one goal scored by Amavubi at the 2nd edition of Africa Nations Championship succinctly tells the story of Rwanda’s return to continental competition in 7 years.

Rwanda was making her first appearance on the continental stage since 2004 when the Amavubi team qualified for the Tunis Africa Nations Cup finals.

Chan, though, is only for home-based players proved that Rwanda had the worst defence having conceded the most-five-and together with Uganda, Zimbabwe, DR Congo and Mali who are the culprits amongst the 16 teams not to have scored a goal. While Ghana have scored one, they join the aforementioned five on no points.

Rwanda pointless in two games plays her final game against Angola on February 15 at Hilal Stadium.

Action continues today in Group A with hosts Sudan facing Algeria in Khartoum while counterparts Gabon clash Uganda who will be fighting for nothing at Hilal stadium at 19.00 hours local time.
