RWAMAGANA — Arrangements are under way for Muhima sector in Nyarugenge district of Kigali and Kigabiro in Rwamagana district to sign a pact aimed at mobilising youths for developmental goals.

"Our sectors are yet to sign a memorandum of understanding after a detailed discussion on a number of terms that will be included in the partnership. It  targets youths but we wish it to include other groups; including women leaders and members of cooperatives in order to benefit all residents,” Nsenga Rubibi, the executive secretary of Kigabiro sector told The New Times recently.

As part of the arrangement, residents of Muhima recently visited Kigabiro sector in a bid to forge the relationship; a similar visit by Kigabiro residents will be made in April, when they intend to seal the deal.

"This partnership means a lot not only to the leaders but also to residents of our sector. We shall cooperate in everything. It would provide a great opportunity for us to exchange development ideas,” Rubibi said of the pact.

He briefed the visiting team about the background of Kigabiro Sector saying that the sector has lots of agricultural products and was capable of selling surplus to town dwellers.

"Kigabiro is made up of five cells, and 20 settlements [Imidugudu]. It has a population of 25,220 people largely farmers whose produce you could find useful,” Rubibi told the visitors.

Idrissa Nkurunziza, the executive secretary of Muhima Sector also lauded the partnership stressing that it will benefit residents of both sectors.

"This partnership will promote cooperation among residents and sector leaders. Since these people are farmers they can find market for their produce in our sector which is located in the heart of the capital city Kigali,” Nkurunziza noted, adding that in return, the farmers can also buy finished products from town.

He said his sector has advanced particularly in forming successful cooperative societies and associations of traders and artists from which their counterparts can borrow a leaf.

He also noted that the pact can be a basis for the promotion of culture and sports amongst residents of both sectors.

Valens Ntezirembo, Mayor of Rwamagana noted that the pact started on a district level between Nyarugenge and Rwamagana districts and explained that it was timely for it to benefit residents of both districts.

He also noted that through such partnerships districts will be able to mobilise residents to engage in government developmental programs.

As a gesture of the new partnership a match between Kigabiro foot ball club and Muhima team was played that ended 3-1in favor of Kigabiro.
