RWAMAGANA — District directors of education have been urged to embrace the use of statistics in their daily work to facilitate exchange of data between schools and the ministry.

The call was made recently by Dr. Louis Munyakazi, the director general of NSR during the opening of three-day training in the use of statistics.

Held at AVEGA centre in Rwamagana, the training attracted about 60 participants among them district directors of education across the country and district officials in charge of statistics.

"Statistics is not only relevant in the education sector, it is also vital in agriculture, health and all other sectors,” Dr. Munyakazi said, appealing to participants to embrace the training and use the skills obtained in their work. He said Rwanda would have statistical base in line with the requirements of the World Bank.

Earlier, while opening the training, Issa Claver, an official of the Ministry of Education noted that the training was in line with the ministry’s new 10-year education program.

"The ministry is implementing a 10-year education program aimed at strengthening education in the country. So we find it important to integrate the use of statistics in the new program,” Claver said, adding this is the core purpose of the training.”

He explained that new statistics soft-ware would soon be introduced in all schools to start compiling statistical data related to school activities, education, teachers and students.

"Our wish is to have education statistics available. This will help the ministry to make thorough planning,” he said.
