BURERA – Police in Burera District, yesterday, handed over to prosecution a man who allegedly murdered his wife, over alleged infidelity.

The suspect, identified as Providence Manirakiza, 31, a resident of Rwerere Sector, confessed to killing his wife, Donatha Ntakirutimana, 28, accusing her of having an extra marital affair.

Residents reported that the couple, who had previously sold off their plots of land and migrated to Nyagatare District, had returned to Burera recently.

"The accused has been torturing the deceased for quite some time. They had never reported their differences to authorities but they had constant domestic quarrels,’’ Ildephonse Hakizimana, a resident, said.

Local leaders and residents have condemned the incident and called on families in the area to report cases of violence among couples to prevent similar bizarre incidents.
Jean Baptiste Kagabo, the Executive Secretary of Rwerere Sector, appealed to families to ensure peaceful co-existence within society.

Meanwhile, authorities said two bodies of teenagers were retrieved from Lake Ruhondo, while another man, who had reportedly drunk local brew, "Kanyanga”, from Kisoro in Uganda, died shortly after arriving at his home in Burera.
