URUGWIRO VILLAGE - The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Donald Kaberuka, is happy with the progress of the country’s economy and said the bank was committed to continue supporting development programmes in the country.

Kaberuka said this yesterday after paying a courtesy call on President Paul Kagame at Urugwiro Village, "We discussed the cooperation between Rwanda and the African Development Bank,” Kaberuka told reporters after the meeting with the President.

He said he assured President Kagame of continued cooperation between Rwanda and the continental bank which is one of the country’s biggest budget supporters.
"Cooperation is very good; I think both sides are happy. The Government of Rwanda is pleased with what the bank is doing here and we are pleased with the progress Rwanda is making,” he added.

Kaberuka said that AfDB is keen on supporting the country’s budget as one of the biggest financiers of development efforts in the country.

He pointed out that the AfDB supports infrastructure, education and agriculture and is increasingly supporting the private sector.

"A few months back we gave out a big loan to the cement factory (CIMERWA) and last week we gave $25m for methane gas development in Kivu. We want to support energy development in Rwanda because this is a bigger impediment to development,” Kaberuka said.
