KIGALI - U.S support for the Rwanda’s military was central in the discussions held yesterday between the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Charles Kayonga, and the visiting U.S Army Africa (USARAF) Commander, Maj. Gen. David R. Hogg.

The American commander told reporters that his first visit to the country was: An opportunity to have some mutual discussions on professionalism, on where we can assist the Rwandan armed forces in our continued great relationship”.
Hogg arrived in the country on Wednesday for a three-day visit aimed at strengthening the partnership.

"We continue to work with the development of the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy. and also, in future, the Command and General Staff College that the armed forces [RDF] want to establish here,” said Hogg.

After meeting Kayonga and several other senior RDF officers, Gen. Hogg visited the peace keeping operations centre at the Rwanda Military Academy in Gako, Eastern Province.

The US Army Africa Command is part of the
USARAF is the land forces component of U.S. AFRICOM, which is based in Stuttgart, Germany. President Barack Obama recently nominated Gen. Carter F. Ham to take over command of AFRICOM from Gen. William E. Ward.
