As  the country intensifies efforts to become a regional tourism destination, more international hotels are set to start operations in Rwanda.

Speaking to The New Times in a telephone interview, Rica Rwigamba, the head of Tourism and Conservation, at Rwanda Development Board (RDB), said that Hilton Worldwide is coming to the country very soon.

Hilton has about 3,600 hotels in 81 countries.
Rwigamba added that Serena and the Gorilla Group of hotels, which already have operations in Rwanda, would soon open other branches in the country. Currently a new Gorilla hotel is under construction in Nyarutarama, Gasabo District.

She explained that the current hotels in the country have the capacity to accommodate over 5,000 people.

"The coming in of new hotels is good now that the country is becoming a tourism and conference destination in the region,” Rwigamba noted.

Two new luxurious hotels - New Century Hotel and Kigali Convention Complex - will be completed next year.

"It will be one way of having a competitive hospitality sector in the region which will also attract more tourists,” Rwigamba said.
